Data loss,it’s a truly sickening feeling, as soon as you realise that some important document or precious photos have disappeared out of your computer. But that’s pointless to despair. The odds are the information is still present, even when you realize you erased it. Your pc operating-system just doesn’t understand how to locate it anymore.

Four of the most common reasons for data loss are

• Deletion. You erased the file accidentally through a disk cleanup, or since you thought it was no longer needed. It’s not within the Trash Can. However, the information will remain so long as the space it occupied around the disk has not been used by another file.

• Overwriting. Placing-saving a brand new file over the top old one. However, that old data can always exist, and become recoverable

.• System file corruption. The disk all of a sudden seems empty, or even the file and folder names contain gibberish. The files most likely remain, however the pointers for them happen to be lost or corrupted and also the operating-system cannot locate them

.• Physical damage or hardware failure. You obtain error messages whenever you attempt to browse the disk, or it’s not recognised through the computer whatsoever. The information continues to be apt to be present around the disk itself, however the drive is not capable of being able to access it.

Generally, there’s a strong possibility that the information still is available. The pc operating-system can’t view it, but file recovery software may have the ability to. If the issue is a hardware failure a file recovery service may have the ability to return the information using special equipment.

Ready for file recovery?

There’s one fundamental rule of information recovery for the best possibility of recuperating the files you must not write any new data towards the disk these were saved on. That old data is only going to be available as long as it is not re-written on, and the disk space remains available. When the disk is the computer’s primary drive and your drive has been in use constantly you will need to switch off the pc immediately, and employ another computer to find a strategy to recover your computer data. You need to put your computer’s hard disk drive in another computer to complete the information recovery, or use file recovery that runs from the Compact disc or floppy disk, because setting up the information recovery software around the drive could overwrite the data you need to recover.

Avoiding many of these anxious moments by having a reliable robust online computer backup option available, would be the answer to safeguarding yourself against losing those precious files, photo’s and data.

You will find a number of ways to keep your computer data safe and among the best options is by using a web-based (or remote) online data backup service. There are as you would expect many companies out there offering these online backup services and at reasonable prices.

Online backup services are normally easy to connect to, usually all it take is a small programme or software that is downloaded to your computer which in turn will direct your files to a remote server. Files are always sent to the remote server via a secure internet connection guaranteeing the integrity of your data and files alike.

As soon as the online data resource software in downloaded to your computer you will be able to customise and arrange your options to suit yourself. The choices afforded to the user are endless.

You will be able if you wish to back up all files or chose from only the files that you wish to be backed up, also each and every time the files are added to or changed the backup system will respond.

Features of the Online data backup option

Data Encryption

Encrypting of all your files thereby avoiding having your files stolen or hacked whilst travelling over the internet. These files can be stored in there encrypted state avoiding someone other than yourself from being able to access them. You will be able to read your files whilst encrypted by using your encryption key.

Uninterrupted Data Protection

Using the online data backup option means that your data is always being backed up and without interruption. The option will be given to the user as to whether to back up files and data without break or interruption or as the user may wish to stipulated backup times throughout the day. Thereby always guarding against loss of data.

File by file restore

This option allows you to be able to restore your files without the assistance of your online provider. Remembering the name of the files you wish to restore will most definitely help having said that you may also be able to search and restore the files by other criteria such as maybe date.

Redundancy

This option allows you to be able to backup your files in different locations and have copies of the same files stored.

Server and Network backup

Most good online computer backup solutions will allow more than one computer on a network or backup server. Now this option is popular amongst companies that have huge amounts of data placed on many computers

Identified advantages of an online computer backup solution

There are as it seems apparent endless advantages to storing your data online as opposed to offline.

Automation

The programme installed onto your computer will facilitate the online backup of your data and this takes place automatically each and every time you add, change or modify files or data.

Remote file storage

Now this facility can be priceless in avoiding data loss if any of your offline backup options fails or even if the location of your computer becomes compromised due to maybe some kind of disaster natural or otherwise.

Data retention unlimited

No restrictions will be placed on you or the amount of data that you can store, in actual fact you will be able to store as much data as you like.

The facilities above are only a small sample of what’s on offer from the online computer backup option.

In this article, I will be showing you the best free backup software I use and recommend.

It just isn’t possible to quickly upload/access videos that you upload online due to the space it takes up. For video, you might be better off uploading to YouTube.)

Moving on, let’s first talk about the mammoth company Windows’ online backup software, SkyDrive. This is probably the best free online backup service in terms of the amount of data you can save, a whooping 25 GB. I have never seen another free service where you can even reach 10 GB so this totally blew me away. Due to the insane amount of space you can get with this service, I would recommend that you use this if you have lots of photos to store. Despite its large space however, I personally don’t use this (despite having tried it before) because of the “ease of use factor”. I found it difficult to download entire folders and it was a nightmare to organize the online data. For example, you would have to transfer files into folder individually for a newly created folder.

MozyHome is most probably one of the best online backup services. It backs up once locally and once online for you and the best thing is that it is a set and forget thing. Once you download the program and spell out the type of files you want to backup, it will do it automatically for you. The downside? It only gives 2GB of space, after which it costs $4.95 per month (which I personally think is a bargain for media powerhouses because the price stays the same regardless of the amount of data files you save). However, I personally don’t use this because of the constant reminders I get from the software to upgrade.

Now, the program I personally use and recommend is Dropbox. I am not affiliated to it in any way. I am but a really satisfied user of their online backup service. It gives 2 GB of space as well and is a syncing software. Basically, when you install the program, you get a dropbox folder in your documents folder (or anywhere you choose actually). By placing any files you want in there, it is automatically uploaded silently online. While it does take some time for larger files, it is real speedy for documents. Furthermore, if you use multiple computers, installing the program on multiple computer logging using the same account allows you to sync files across all of these computers. This is the function I use the most because I sync documents between my laptop and desktop regularly.

So these are the programs I recommend. This list is definitely not exhaustive and if you want to know more about such software it isn’t too much hassle to Google it. No matter which software you choose, I strongly hope that you will choose to backup your important data to safeguard it.

Backing up your computer is very important due to all the threat’s computer’s face today. Did you know that your hard drive can take a “fail” on you at anytime. Despite how new the hard drive is, it still can happen. Some threats the your hard drive faces are hardware failure, malware, spyware and viruses.

Now that you know the bad news here is the good. You may be thinking “I can just back my computer up to get greatly increase my chances of saving my hard work.” You are correct. It is that simple.

Backing up your computer for some people can actually save their job. Take me for an example: I am an architect and I work for my brother on a computer repair business. My architect boss has been asking me all week for a blueprint and I finally finished it. Right before I was about to email it, guess what. My laptop got hit with the hardware failure aka blue screen of death. Luckily, I have a habit of manually backing up my files when I finish with them. So I was already a third of the way done.

You cannot believe how many people ask me “How do I get my files back because my hard drive just crashed”. I tell them all “You cannot get files off of a dead hard drive”. What you don’t back up you have a risk of losing and that’s it. Some people may find backing up time consuming but really it’s not. You will especially think it’s not when your taking the time to redo all the work you lost.

Backing up photos, music, emails, videos, documents is easier than ever with online back up services. Online backup is the easiest way of making sure your files stay safe.

There are three easy steps for online back up.

1. Choose the files or folders to backup. Most online back up services let you create a backup schedule for your files to automatically be backed up for minimal risk. Without you having to do anything the services runs in the background backing up your files for you.

2. Press the back up button if you are backing up manually or run it on a schedule. Good job! Your files are now uploaded to the cloud. The cloud is an online storage area for all the files you can imagine.

3. Access Your Files From Anywhere, At Anytime. All you need is the internet. Only you can access your files.

There are several options for backing up data but one of the more popular methods in recent months is a system known as Internet Backup Vaulting. What this type of backup does is send your files over the internet using a secure encryption code and safely storing your company’s data files offsite where you can access it at any time.

Much safer than backing up to a disk or zip drive and done automatically internet vaulting secures your data in a remote location and with the information secure you won’t have to worry about losing valuable information should your server crash or if malicious code is placed on your system.

Backing up data used to be a very tedious and time consuming process that many businesses deemed too much of a hassle to bother with. This was especially true of people who used computers for their business but didn’t have much knowledge about the systems they operated on. Unfriendly and confusing IT companies didn’t help matters and in many cases turned people off completely after feeling they were being talked down to and made to feel stupid.

Internet vaulting is an online backup server that that lets you backup all your computer files over the internet. From client information, purchasing records, credit card transactions and legal documents you can easily, automatically and securely store all of your important computer files in a remote location that is safe from server crashes, hackers, Spyware, Malware and other intrusive computer programs that can permanently damage or even destroy your files.

One of the main benefits to using an internet vaulting system for your data backup is that these systems are programmed to run automatically so you don’t have to remind yourself when to do a back up of your files. You can set the backup to run daily, weekly or monthly depending on your volume of files and how often you access records. This helps tremendously since it is no longer a task that an employee is responsible for remembering and won’t suffer if people are out on sick days or vacations.

The automatic process also eliminates the chance of human error when backing up files to a disk, transferring that disk to a physical location and storing all the information. People are not machines and mistakes do happen. With internet vaulting you can greatly reduce the chance of a mistake being made with valuable files you can’t afford to lose.

Online data backup has gained much popularity today due to technological advancements in terms of computer usage among us. Backup software made for online data can be very handy especially when you are dealing with very important files and classified data. This type of computer software was designed to provide much ease in processing back up files and ensuring that all computer users can secure a back up file routinely.

There are a myriad of companies offering backup software with all the functionality needed in the retrieval and processing of online as well as digital files. There is free backup software which you can use but these can provide limited functionality. It is possible to purchase online data backup software with a wide array of features and functionality. Before you purchase these programs, you must know the reasons why online data backup can solve your concerns regarding file accessibility, safety and storage. Here are 8 reasons why online data backup can work best for you:

1. Online data backup offers much ease in providing a solution to problems related to file storage as long as you have an active internet connection. With basic computer skills, anybody can access and make use of the backup service.

2. Backup CD’s, USB and external memory drives can fail meaning that your important backup is useless to you. Online backup services automatically keep a number of backups for you so your backup is always secure.

3. Online backup can provide faster access to files and faster updating of files. This can help users to be more efficient at work, school and even at home. The accessibility of the files provides users the full control of their work and stored data.

4. The reliability of online data backup services is one of the main reasons why there is an increase in the number of people who prefer to entrust their files and data through this method. The process of securing back up files on the server is very dependable so users have no worry of lost files and data.

5. As we continue using our computers more and more, and computer programs get bigger and bigger, we require ample space for storage of all the files we have created and acquired. Even though we seek the expansion of hard disks to accommodate all the files we have, we still require more space beyond what hard disks can provide. An online data backup service can be very useful in storing photos, slideshow presentation and other personal files. If you have online data backup you don’t have to worry about increasing the memory of your computer.

6. Data loss can be very stressful especially when it is caused by the failure of hardware due to virus. Online backup can provide accessible data and files without the worry of virus infection and lost files. You are assured that your files and data are all well kept and stored through online data backup systems.

7. You can help your computer to be more efficient and fast since your hard drive is not crowded with files which can be stored through online data backup.

8. The full restoration of your files and data is instantly available. You can access your files and data on various computers or laptops whenever you are traveling. This can be very convenient when you are running a business and all your files need to be easily accessible.

The rage for computer backup seems to be online computer backup services. Many factors including Internet speed have influenced this backup choice.

There is a lot of pitfalls that you’d really need to know about though, regarding online computer backup. The trouble is that many of the Internet backup providers give you the impression that they are a one stop service.

One thing they normally don’t tell you is that you’re only backing up small subset of the files on your computer. An example of this is when they only back up your my documents folder. There is still a lot of data that is not being backed up with this type of service.

I have, for example, well over 300 gigabytes of data on my hard drive. This includes video, audio and several documents. That’s not good enough, I want everything to be backed up properly. Needless to say, using an online backup service could be a problem for me simply because it got too much to back up.

Even if I was to back everything up to one of these online services, it’d be brutal to recover it online. Imagine if I had to restore or 300 GB of data. I did a little bit calculating annotate probably about a week and a half to store everything.

I’m not saying that online computer backup services are bad thing, but you have to realize the limitations of these types of services.

Another thing you need to consider when looking at online computer backup services, is how secure your data actually is. I would hate find out that my confidential information was being shared on the Internet. I’m sure that this doesn’t happen very often but whenever your daily use your computer and is on the Internet then that has to be in your mind. If you have confidential documents I think that you should never use an online backup service.

I think the big point that one has to remember is that you really are only backing up in many cases only a section of your whole hard drive. So what would you do if your hard drive crash? This isn’t so far-fetched anymore. As a computer technician I replace several hard drives every single month but it failed.

As a matter of fact I just replace the hard drive on my laptop that is only 15 months old. Hard drives have gotten very inexpensive and also have gotten very unreliable in the process. Now you have to also worry about all your programs, file settings, e-mail and whatever else didn’t make it to the online backup service. The majority the cost of repairing computer can be the programs, set up and so on.

I personally recommend all my customers to do two types of backup. Certainly consider using a good online computer backup service. They’ll do a good job of backing up things that you’re saving every day.

Also consider using a local backup to back up your whole hard drive.. This will include all your data, all of your programs and anything else that is important if you want to restore everything. There really is no excuse as you can get a good backup program and an external backup drive for next to nothing.

An external hard drive in today’s marketplace is normally less than $150. If you’re considering online computer backup consider also using the local backup as a good save your bacon.

Backing up your computer on a regular basis has now become the norm for most. In the past, this process was only necessary for large companies or businesses who had a lot of information on their computers, but now most people are choosing to secure their files on their own personal computers at home by backing up. This is because more and more of us are using our PC or laptops at home to store important information such as work files, photographs and private emails. A lot of us rely on information such as this on our machines and if anything were to happen to our computers we would be lost and extremely distressed!

This is why it makes sense to backup your files on a regular basis. If you don’t, you are running the risk of losing all of your files should anything happen to your computer. A lot of the files we keep on our personal computers can’t be replaced; therefore backing up your files should automatically become part of your daily routine.

Backing up your files put simply involves making copies of your files on a separate medium other than on your hard disk. This means that should your computer experience power failure, get a virus or any of your files are corrupted or can’t be retrieved then they can be restored via your backup system. Sometimes your computer can be running completely fine and then the next minute it fails, losing all your files. Sometimes all it can take is bad software installation or an operating system failure to lose all your files and there is nothing you can do to get them back. All your hard work and memories down the drain just for the sake of a few minutes spent backing up your files.

Nowadays, floppy disks are pretty much obsolete and most new computers don’t even feature a floppy disk drive. This method of backing up files used to be the most popular but due to the small amount of space allowance on a floppy disk most people are turning to more modern options of storing their files.

Since the decrease in floppy disk usage, CD-Rs and DVD-Rs are now becoming increasing popular. These are easy to use and enable you to burn files onto them and give you more space than the traditional floppy disk. On average, this option has a memory of up to 800 megabytes and up to 4700 megabytes respectively which is lots more room than your average floppy disk. This means more can be stored on a single CD or DVD meaning that you don’t have to collect or organize lots of disks and get most of what you want on one.

Others prefer to use a key drive. This works by plugging into the USB port and can store up to 2 gigabytes of files.

Aside from the above options, you can also opt to back up your files online. This is carried out by a team of professionals who will help you to retrieve any lost data. This is thought to be the safest method of computer file backup and is fast, easy and makes all your files accessible to you no matter where you are.

It can be a really scary and distressing time when your computer crashes and if you lose all your files it can be even worse! Why not save yourself the stress of losing everything and choose a method of back up that will suit you and your needs and make sure you are regularly employing it. Just a few minutes a day could save you a lot of bother in the long run so why not give it a try today and keep your work safe!

Remote backup services are being used more frequently as an alternative for backing up crucial data and files. The term “remote backup service” refers to backing up your PC files to an offsite or remote location. Although businesses and large corporations have been backing up to offsite locations for years the newest innovation is backing up remotely using the Internet as the go between for backing up and securing your files.

If a remote backup service is a new phenomenon to you it may help you to know you are not alone. Since it is part of cloud computing which is relatively new some people have not heard of this method of backing up your files, let alone understanding how it works. Here is an easy and understandable overview of how a remote backup service works.

Understanding Remote Backup

Before explaining to you how a remote backup service works it is important to understand the remote backup process. When you save files on your computer they are saved to the hard drive which is the main hardware inside your PC that stores critical files. If you transfer the files from one PC that is connected to another one in the same room you are saving files via a local server. If you transfer your files over the Internet you are sending them to a remote server to be stored in an offsite location.

Using a Remote Backup Service

Online backup services provide you with a way to store your computer data and files to a remote server using the Internet. There are many different services available online for backing up your data to an offsite or remote location.

Here is how it works:

You Choose a Service: Do your research and choose a offsite backup service that is trustworthy and reliable. There is a host of information available online for finding the right online storage service.

Remote Server: The remote backup service will provide the remote server where your data will be stored. A quality service will provide more than one remote server in the event of a natural disaster. When you sign up with the service you purchase storage space on the remote server and the right to access it whenever you choose.

Prepare Your Files: Once you establish an account with a remote backup service you will be provided with software that will serve as a dashboard for uploading and backing up your files. This will be your gateway to the remote server that is provided by the company.

Backup Your Files: Once everything is all set you simply click on “backup” in the software dashboard and your files are on their way to the remote server. During the transmission process a quality backup service will provide encryption during transfer and then again during storage. This is a process of securing your data so no one else can read it.

Access: Once your files are placed on the remote server you can easily access them from your PC dashboard or by entering a password in a computer from another location. You can also restore your files instantly from the remote server in the event you lose them.

So in a nutshell, the Internet provides the bridge for your computer data and files to pass over to reach the remote server for storage. This is the reason so many people find remote backup services convenient because they can access their files from any computer with an Internet connection.
